Mistakes??? You may think the first thing that comes to mind is letting an opportunity slip away and you know that you'll never get a chance like that because that opportunity that flew out the window maybe your last chance you'll ever get in a certain situation. I believe that there's always chances to fix to what you messed up but i dont think it will never be like what i am about to tell you?
So on Monday night, I was reading this news article on newsweek.com on my laptop and I saw this article that caught my eye about a 61yr old called Jerry Wintraub who used to work at a concession stands for some of Elvis concerts back in the 1970's. One day he came up with this idea to buy 35,000 scarves from India, bring it back to the states and hope to make a profit by selling the scarves to the sellout crowds Elvis used to have at his concerts. These weren't some regular old scarves, they happpened to be custom made scarves with Elvis picture on each of them. Meanwhile, when he returned to the states, he had already made his mind up knowing that he was going to make profit from selling those scarves because he said"Where there was a show, there were people with money". At that point of time while he was still working at the concession stands, he started to sell the scarves but the plan didnt quite workout as planned or as he thought it would.
On New Years Eve of 1975, he drove Elvis Presley to Pontiac, Michigan for a concert at the Silverdome which was estimated to be about 80,000 fans in attendance. Other than taking Elvis to the concert, Wintraub had another job as the one man show concession stand during those concerts. Jerry said "Elvis did fabolously well as always". He used to take the scarfs on his neck with sweat on it and just hand it to a lucky girl. First they would just take the smell in and just feint for some odd reason.
While the concert was going on, the scarfs just weren't selling. He thought to himself that it was a big mistake and he just didn't want to put 35,000 scarves to waste. Moments passed by and everything just seemed like it was headed the wrong way. Jerry had a frown on his face and sometimes it just rare to see an old man down like that.
So here comes Elvis and his entourage. He asked Jerry if everything and replied back saying everything was terrible and was just horrible mistake. After explaining to Elvis about his problem, Elvis gave him a solution to Jerry Wintraubs issue. After a short moments after resuming the show, Elvis told the crowd to buy the scarfs to help fix his problem. By the end of the night, Jerry Wintraub sold about a million dollars worth of material. He also learned his lesson saying that "you shouldn't buy 35,000 scarfs unless you have Elvis Presley to sell them.
